Style it New! - The shop your Home blog series - My autumn Hallway
Updated: Dec 3, 2019
This month's 'Style it new' feature is on a room in the house I've really wanted to change for a while - my hallway!
I just felt it was lacking something and the arrangement of furniture really wasn't working.
As always I didn't have a large budget at my disposal, so decided to use what I had in the house, rearrange items, upcycle and reuse them in different ways. Basically "Shop my Home" - you know the drill now.
The 'Style it new' blog series is all about getting back to that good old fashioned ideal of 'Mend or make do' a phrase that really needs to be resurrected in the these eco conscious times we are living in.
I'm still in love with our Mora tiled floor by Topps Tiles and its super functional for family life. But I did feel the runner was blending in and not adding much in the way of style so I decided to pinch the rug from Dylan's bedroom and use it in the hallway instead, his room is next on the list for a makeover so I don't feel too guilty.
To match in with the monochrome rug I wanted to add a few darker accessories to the hallway, but without any pennies I decided to get creative with some paint I had left over in the house.
I painted the wire tealight holder and large star black with rustoleum black spray paint. The pumpkin was a Homesense find last year and went from silver to black with a lick of paint to tie in the colour scheme.
I also sanded back the top of my console table and stained it, then painted the rest black with left over rustoleum paint and the handles gold. I will show better pictures of that transformation in another post, the light really wasn't my friend when I took these pictures.
Another simple way to change the look of a room without spending the cash is to move your furniture around. Its something I've loved doing since I was a child, rearranging my bedroom, and things haven't changed at all, only now I have a whole house to play with.
Moving the hallstand to the other end of the hall allowed more light to enter through the windows and also stops the mountain of shoes being left by everyone who enters the house!
I also swapped the hallway mirror with the one from the downstairs loo, I think it adds more interest and style to the entrance hall.
And the final touches of autumn which complete this months' 'Style it new' blog post are the obligatory pumpkin, foliage from the garden and the lovely clay decorative leaves I made last autumn.
I would love to know what you think of the re-design?
Make sure you get in touch and let me know what 'shop your home' projects you've recently completed, I am always on the look out for inspiration
